 "It is true that people who speak the truth face a lot of difficulties in life. However, it is also true that people who speak the truth make a lot of progress in life as well. Even if they have to face adversities today because of speaking the truth, the same truth will be their greatest strength in the future.

Today's story is taken from Swami Rama's book "Living with the Himalayan Masters". In this story, you will come to know about the difficulties one faces because of speaking the truth and the achievements one can gain in life because of that truth. Swami Rama spent many years in difficult meditation in the Himalayas.

During this time, he met many saints and yogis and some incidents happened that completely changed his life. One such incident happened when Swami Rama was waiting for a train with his guru Swami Madhavananda Bharati at a station. At the same time, the station master came to them, greeted the guru and said that two days ago, he had seen a saint in his dream."

"In my dream, I saw a saint who gave me a mantra that changed my life completely. I haven't been able to sleep for two days and my mind is very restless. Please help me. Give me that mantra which will improve my life. Swami Ji calmly said that you have a family and a government job, why do you want to complicate things?

The station master said, "Maharaj, I have been restless for many days, feeling that life is very dull. I keep thinking why I was born. Why am I not happy? Please say something once." After hearing the station master's words, the guru thought for a moment and said to the police station master, "Okay, this is difficult for you, but if you have a desire inside, this will bring color back to your life."

You will experience new happiness, freshness, and power, and you will also discover the truth of life through this mantra. The mantra is that for the next three months, you will speak the truth at all times. No matter what happens, you must speak the truth, even though it may be very difficult. But if you follow this mantra with complete devotion, your life will change."

After saying so, the teacher and disciple left from there. The station master started speaking the truth from that very moment. Firstly, he stopped taking a share in the bribe. The station master had a habit of drinking a lot of tea, but even after two days, he had a desire for his tea. The station master started getting a deep sleep.

Coincidentally, an inspector who inspects railway station employees arrived there that week. The inspector had received a complaint that many railway station employees take bribes. When the station master was questioned during the inspection, he told the truth that whatever bribe we used to take, we would distribute among ourselves.

The inspector immediately made a report and filed a case against the bribe-taking employees, including the station master. The foolishness of the station master's honesty had put all the employees in trouble. In court, all the employees gave false statements against the station master, saying that only the station master used to take bribes, and we were falsely implicated to defame us.

"The Station Master was sentenced to 15 years in prison. His wife and children also left him. The Station Master told his Guru that because he spoke the truth, he lost his job and family. He didn't know what would happen in the next three months. As soon as he uttered these words, Swami Rama's Guru burst out laughing and said to Swami Rama,

"Do you know what happened next? The Station Master whom I had given the mantra of speaking the truth is now in jail. His family has also left him. Hearing this, Swami Rama asked, "Why are you laughing then?" Swami Madhavananda Bharati explained that he was not laughing at the Station Master but at the foolishness of the world. As long as humans lie and deceive, the world respects them.

Whereas the whole world ridicules the true saints who speak the truth. Then the world wonders where the truth is. That's why I am laughing. The Station Master was soon brought to court. The judge asked him, "Where is your lawyer?" The Station Master replied that he did not need a lawyer anymore. The judge then suggested that he should take the help of a government lawyer as his sentence may be reduced."

"But the station master said that I don't need a lawyer. You can give me any punishment you want. But the truth is that I used to take a part of the bribe that was being taken. But 13 days ago, I met a saint. He had told me never to lie, always speak the truth in every situation. Since that day, I have lost my family, friends, and much more, and now I stand in court."

Upon hearing this, the judge declared a black verdict and silently went with the station master to his chamber. The judge asked who that saint was whose words influenced you to speak the truth. When the station master told him about the saint, the judge understood everything. By coincidence, the judge himself was also a disciple of that same saint, who had given the station master the mantra of speaking the truth. 

The judge said that you are on the right path. I wish I could do the same. The judge imposed a penalty on the station master and released him. The station master lost his job. His friends and family, considering him crazy, broke off all ties with him. He started living in a rented room and began teaching tuition to children.

"But they were still committed to the truth. One day, the station master received a government telegram stating that there was a large piece of land belonging to his father that had been taken over by the government. Now, the government was offering him a compensation of 1.3 million rupees. The station master had no knowledge about the land.

When he checked the calendar, he realized that three months had passed. He understood that he had received a reward for not lying for three months. He went to his wife and children and handed them the compensation money. When they asked him to stay with them, the station master said that he had lied a lot in his life and felt bored. 

He always felt scared. He had stopped laughing, but since he started telling the truth, he felt happy even amidst difficulties. There is no fear of anything. I have seen the benefits of not lying for three months, and now I want to know how much benefit there will be if I do not lie throughout my life and walk on the path of truth."

"You won't be able to walk on this difficult path. That's why you should keep your money and live your life. At this moment, Swami Rama's guru started laughing again and said to Swami Rama, 'You know what happened after that.' Today, even after losing everything, the station master did not leave the company of truth. Today, he has experienced the power of truth.

This is the beginning of a great life. Such a person, wherever he goes, will be a source of inspiration and strength for people. Friends, most people lie just because they think that by lying, they can achieve a lot. Those who could not achieve what others did, they think that by lying they can achieve it. That's what they think.

That's why a person keeps getting caught in the trap of lies and the one who gets stuck in the trap of lies once, has to tell even more lies to save that lie. And a time comes when his entire existence is filled with lies. But if a person takes a resolution with courage and shows determination that he will never lie and always speak the truth, no matter what the situation is, then he can overcome the trap of lies."

"It may be that we have to face difficulties for it. But believe me, even in that difficulty, your mind will remain completely calm. You will have no fear about anything. Because lying can earn you wealth, money, relationships, but despite achieving all this, a fear will remain in your mind.

You will have a fear in your mind that if someone finds out about my truth tomorrow, then my whole life will be ruined and you will always live with this fear. But if you speak the truth, then in the beginning, people may distance themselves from you because the truth is bitter. Speaking the truth requires courage, it requires bravery, and not everyone has that kind of courage.

Therefore, if you want to remove all kinds of fear from your mind, then from today onwards, take a pledge to speak the truth and commit yourself to it. After this, your whole life will change. Even if the people around you lie, they may progress by lying, but you should not compromise with yourself. Because if you also start lying to be successful like those people, then there will be no difference between you and them."

"You will lose your way and after gathering the courage to speak the truth, you will also make considerable progress in your meditation. Because most of the time we are unable to delve deep into our meditation due to the fear that is embedded in our minds. That fear always remains in our minds, and it is a product of falsehood. The essence is lost from what holds our minds captive.

The mind becomes completely empty. Sleep vanishes from our eyes. All of this happens because of speaking lies.
